Attachment of Earnings

Do any of you have any experience in this? Mine is for none payment of Council Tax.... it was at my request (not the court) about 3 years ago I was in serious arrears and the Council Tax Dept agreed this was the best option so I filled in the relevant forms, however they failed to contact my employer.... last year (2 years later) they contacted my new employer and the deduction was put in place immediately.
I am paying my current council tax and the arrears via my salary which is a real struggle... would it be worth me contacting the Council Tax to see if they could negotiate the amount being deducted from my wages.
£136 is being deducted from my monthly salary and I am paying £77 per month for the current years charges

Hi there - not sure if I can help but in an Attachment of Earnings set by a court, they take an amount calculated by a formula as they can only take so much from your wages - not sure now where you could find out what this calculation is but a search for attachment of earnings should bring you something up
I would think that you would lose nothing by approaching the council and telling them that you are having difficulty paying this and ask if the amount could be changed - and I would ask them if they are using the official figure from the Att Of Earnings calculation chart or if they had set the amount themselves
It is worth a try as they should not be leaving you struggling like this
Hope you can get it all sorted out petal
Add: I have found a link which may help you, it is from a council but does give you the formula they use to work out the deductions from your salary - check this to see if your repayment is anything like the figure this formula gives - and use this as a basis to ask your council for a reduction, if appropriate http://www.kirklees.gov.uk/answers/council-tax/AttachmentofEarnings.pdfMr 3Dogs 3-7-12
