Buying a car - deposit

Hi Guys,

Just trying to be prepared for all eventualities. Today i found a car i liked and put down a deposit of £500 on a credit card. I intend to complete the deal with payment via my debit card.

The salesman says the deposit is nonrefundable and i have signed a sales receipt to that affect. I have also made him note the "bits" that need to be completed before pickup e.g. a mark by the front number plate and a refurb of 1 alloy.

As long as the bits are done i will complete the sale but am just wondering my rights if the work isnt up to scratch and i pull out of the deal.

Cheers all,
David.
