K & Co - Trying to pay them off.

I've had an account with GUS, now K & Co for years. Last month I entered a DMP with Payplan and owe just shy of £20k. Payplan suggested that as I have two relatively small debts with Kays and also Next (both about £82) that I keep them out of it and try to pay them off as I made token payments to my other creditors last month. I was also due some overtime on excess of my normal salary.

I paid Next off in full in early Feb and sent Kays a letter saying I was in financial difficulty but intended to pay them in full when I get paid again by the end Feb. I sent a £5 token payment.

Since then, they've blasted me with charges and the balance is now £112. They said they would only stop charges if I enter into their own payment plan, however they acknowledge that I'm struggling!

I can't afford to pay them more than £82 this month which is what I've budgeted for as my car tax is due. They want £68 as a min payment. How will this affect my DMP with Payplan if I have £40 or so carried over with Kays until end of March now as it looks like I've still got a credit account open?

Could I offer them a F & F?

B******s! I hate these scummy companies that try all the tricks in the book to make people keep buying more tat off them, and then screw them over when they are in trouble. It isn't as if you weren't trying to pay them off!

Is it worth you speaking to Payplan and asking their advice? It would serve them right if it got added to your DMP and then they would have to take their turn along with all the others!
  • That was my view and something I told them on the phone! If they weren't careful they would end up getting a £1 a month for years! I've had an account with them for at least ten years so they've had their money's worth out of me. I will speak to Payplan. I'd happily give them the £82 which is where the account stood early last month!

  • In your position, I would offer them the choice of £82 Full and Final or incorporation into the DMP. The trouble is that this is such a small amount that you may have a problem engaging the attention of anyone sufficiently senior to make this sort of decision but sufficiently junior to get involved with an amount so trivial.
