I didn't infer, I stated it as fact.
Most of them are not donating their time, they are being paid. There was a big furore about Terry Wogans fee in the newspapers, or did you miss that.
If the Children in Need was invenoried I think we would all have a surprise.
I think its awful that you would label some of these people, who are indeed giving their time for nothing, as thieves tbh.
So we will of course just agree to differ.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
As long as the food is collected by indepenent organisations I would donate but I dont trust the supermarkets
about 5 years ago when I lived in London my local supermarket had a collection basket for the local cat shelter where you could donate tins to help, I always did this - bought extra tins and put them into the basket.
One day I was in the store and saw an assistant take all the tins out of the basket, I assumed they were being collected by the charity., 10 minutes later I was in the cat food section and saw the same assistant busily putting the donated tins BACK ON THE SHELVES.
To cut a very long story short I made a serious complaint to the store and informed the charity, of course the store said it was a mistake (by mistake read OMG we have been rumbled lets make up an excuse)
The only reason it didnt get into the nationals was that the charity accepted a large cheque to keep the whole thing quite and a written assurance that the store would match all donated tins for two years.
I have never been into one of the companies stores since0 -
I try to avoid any charitable giving that is not tax efficient. No point in giving more money to hmrc!0

I think you'll find most actually give their time.
Expenses are a seperate issue. I don't think it would really be fair to ask a celebrity to give up their time, and then also pay their own airfares and hotel bills to carry out what the producers want them to do, to raise money.
But certainly, most give their time for free, with a few bad eggs.
However, as with everything, time given for free means publicity, which means money stemming from that charitable event. I have no issues with this really, thats just that way things work. How many end up on chatshows & gameshows after climbing kilamanjaro for example? Nearly all of them.0 -
Ive never heard of this, sounds like a good idea though. I will see if there is anything like this in my local area.Rugby Town Property Finder

Is it weird that I've only ever seen pet food banks?
Unless I was inadvertantly donating kitekat to some humans. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If you see some of the muck the underclasses eat, that'd be like a free ticket to a top restaurant to them (where top restaurant = KFC).
Unless I was inadvertantly donating kitekat to some humans.
Anyway, even if you were donating kit-e-kat to humans, many people without 2 brass farthings have pets, so it all works out fine in the end.0 -
i work in a local soup kitchen... sadly we arnt allowed to hand food out to any service users by request from the police (it was deemed that service users to the service would use the tins etc as missiles ( ofcourse they would they dont really need the food in the first place they just turn up to the soup kitchen for the craic ... sarcasm there incase you didnt notice))
we also sadly can not give any of the service users any of the left over food at the end of the evening ( food poisoning /insurance issues) ... i can only speak for the team that i work with but we ensure that all the food that we use has been home cooked ( we buy, it cook it and bring it in ourselves)as we like to ensure that atleast for one meal per month (although i am sure other teams do likewise ... i just cant speak for them) our service users get healthy nutritious filling food
the majority of our service users have alcohol/drug dependancy issues ... many may think that they bring it on themselves and that is their right to do so .... i personally think that i like to help out in my local community ( i also work with two other local community projects) and my time whilst very precious to me is something that i feel i am able to give0
