Big things in washing machine?

Might sound a stupid question.
Have some sleeping bags and kitchen seat pads that need a good wash - but would it damage my machine to put them in the washer (standed front loader automatic)? Or would I be safer doing them in the bath. Dont want to wreck a £200 machine for the sake fo a £7 sleeping bag! Aso how about slippers?

I do duvets in mine so the sleeping bag should be fine, make it into a roll but only wash it in the machine if it goes in comfortably.
You could put the slippers in a pillowcase or in with other wasing to reduce the amount of noise they make moving about in the drum, though be careful with the temperature as the glue melts on some trainers etc at 40C
If the seat pads are solely material then as long as they go in, they will wash.0 -
I was always told that you need to be able to fit at least a hand space (hand palm not flat of hand) for it to be safe enough to wash. Not tried anything more as I value my machine too much!0

Launderettes have oversized washing machines.0

I could fit a sleeping bag in my old Hotpoint, but can't get it in the Philips Whirlpool, so now have to resort to the launderette. I put my slippers in a pillowcase & then in with a couple of old towels to stop the banging. Seatpads shouldn't be a problem, but you may have to redistribute the stuffing. HTH0

I'd take these items to a laundrette rather than risk damaging the washing machine." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I often wash slippers and trainers - I have a special bag to put trainers in that is padded so they don't damage the machine - I think I got it from betterware or some such.
Just found one like mine on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zipped-Washing-Shoes-Trainers-17cms/dp/B000SYDGG8
No way I paid that much though!!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Thanks for all your replies. I know the sleeping bag fits in easily but heard somewhere if you have one heavy thing in the drum its not too good.
Anyway on refelction think I'll just wash in the bath -can't afford to have to buy a new machine - thats why they've been in the bottom of the laundry basket for months!!
Also son a while ago wnated hsi trainers washed in there but I did them by hand too - perhaps I'm just chicken - or skint!!Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0
