new dmp

ive just started a dmp with payplan and im really worried all the letters have been sent and everything shall start a s a p.
im worried over two things the first being that i ordered from my catalogue 3 weeks before ringin payplan (nothing major just a small birthday present for my child as i had no money at all) and i only decided to enter a dmp after this when i got my bills through and realised i was in a big mess (even so i feel bad). The other thing is when asked i told them i have no savings which is true but i didnt tell them i pay into my work credit union as i forgot as it comes straight out of my wages and there is probably only £60 in savings as we speak. I no these are maybe petty issues but im new to all this and find it all very scary. Any help through this difficult time would be great. (btw im finding this especially hard as my partner doesnt no anything about this as all the debts are mine, and i found it very difficult explaining to my provident rep yesterday that i couldnt pay whilst he was in the house). btw my total debts are 17500 and i will be paying 270 per month.:o

Welldone on getting to grips with your debt :)

Let me put your mind at rest - a catalogue is a business, its in the business of making money. You owe them money and you plan to pay it back; so it may take you a little longer - so what? They can afford it.

Re your savings; it was an oversight, hardly a crime! If it makes you feel better put it toward your debt - or keep it in case of emergency. You are allowed to live while on a DMP.

In my opinion you should tell your partner, the stress of keeping it all to yourself must be very very difficult.

I started my DMP just before I met my hubby and he has been really supportive over this time. He has helped by having the tissues ready, financially and just by being a sounding board. Your partner may be initially angry but will want to help I am sure. At the end of the day it IS only money (sooo easy to say!! lol)

hey staywoz, well done for taking those first steps with your DMP .. Im at the very early stages of mine with CCCS - had all the paperwork from CCCS but still nothing from my creditors so im holding tight waiting for the postman to deliver me the letters to see what they say ... that bit is nerve racking but having spent a long team reading posts on here, im a little more relaxed about it.

I did the same and ordered a large value item on my catalogue before doing my dmp, but i did that because i was so desperate for some money to make ends meet, i bought something on bnpl and sold it to make some immediate cash ... sad i know but thats why im doing the DMP. I think as the post above says, I do intend on paying for it ... it just might take a bit longer than originally planned.

One thing I do have though is the support of my partner ... I dont know your personal circumstances so I do not want to pry, but if you can I would definitely encourange you to speak to your partner and share this with them so that you have the support if you need it. It's quite a difficult thing to hide because so far Iv had about 6 or 7 letters in the post from CCCS confirming this and that and you will only stress yourself out more if you're having to hide it as well as deal with it.
