evening all and happy mothers day,
for mothers day OH and i went with different approaches, my mum got a card & big box of chocs as i know all the stuff i would have got she had for her b'day not so long ago,
MiL got a card & cheapish DVD player as theirs gave up the ghost and they couldn't afford to replace it.
i honestly thought she was going to cry when we gave her it.
OH and i have also done sthg very grown up (considering we are both in our 30's its about time!) and opened an ISA
as we currently live more or less paycheck to paycheck we have decided to get our butts in gear and sort it out!!
we WILL clear off more debt than we ever thought possible and by being extra OS, packed lunchs every day not just when we feel like it for example, we'll save/pay off a hell of a lot of money.

Well, I have been not very OS today in that Messrs Tesco delivered ready meals for supper BUT I see this as enabling DS and DD, who rose magnificently to the occasion and made me chicken in madeira sauce with mushrooms, cheesy mash and vegetables, followed by melting middle chocolate pudding.
And very yummy it was too.
Now, if I drop enough hints, DH may drag himself off the sofa and go and make me coffee, as I thoughtfully enabled him to do this by switching the machine on as I came in from checking on the hens
My mother is very considerately in France so I had to do absolutely nuffink for her (though she dropped huge hints about a Boots voucher and a card being available for her on her return).
Happy Mother's Day to all mothers out there :T0 -
A productive day eventually in that the cooker is now shiny clean (much better than when I asked him to clean it for us to use!!) and I have planted potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce and onions. Planted a container for my mum and still loads of plants left over for us to plant some nice pots for ourselves. Got a few more sets of stuff to plant tomorrow but am pleased we got so much done today, DD5 really enjoyed helping and got to wear her new gardening gloves and apron.
Cooker sold for silly money - just hoping its a genuine bidder and I have no messing about.
Am ready to sit down with a glass of something nice and relax now.0 -
Happy Mothers day to you all.
I have had a good one, card and flowers from the girls. Got some housework done this morning then hubby cooked a roast for the four of us plus mum and MIL. Had a nice relaxed afternoon and topped it off with the ironing tonight.
Unfortunately someone has been in the garden overnight and used the top of the new compost bin to get over into the neighbours garden (or from theirs to ours, we are not sure which way they went) the result is that the lid of the new compost bin is now broken beyond repair . We have only had it two or three weeks.
It also means that someone has been around the house at night which I find worrying. We already check the doors and windows at night before going to bed, and set the alarm to cover downstairs. I'm just cross about it I suppose.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Sorry to hear about your prowler Mrs Veg Plot. Is there any chance it could've been a fox? Sorry not too sure how sturdy your composter is. I don't think a composter really needs a lid (not too sure....we've always just had a pile hidden at the bottom of the garden). I think it'll be fine without one for a while.....and if the prowler comes back he'll drop straight into your compost....I hope you've got something suitably smelly in thereAs my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0

Just what I was thinking ! Leave the top off or cover with clingfilm and let the sod fall in !0

My friend uses an old rug to cover her compost tub after her ex took the lid when he collected his stuff during the divorce, says it works as well as lid did.0

Hello all,
Have been away for the W/E on a course, and apart from the train fare to Birmingham (which I'll get refunded) I've only spent £2.25 on a hot chocolate (a rare treat) on the station this afternoon. Took a flask, sandwich and fruit with me for the journey there on Friday, and refilled the flask with the coffee supplies in my room this morning. Lunch was provided, so besides the aforementioned hot choc, with an apple that was lurking in the bottom of my bag I got all the way home without having to spend any more.
Went away wondering how Gailey was getting on, as we'd had no news. Shame little one didn't put in his appearance Gailey - maybe tonight's the night? Hope all goes well - try to get some rest while you can - though we all know what a worker you are! Sorry your Mothers Day was a disappointment.
When I got home I had a card through my door to say a florist had tried to deliver flowers. I have to ring tomorrow, so still have them to look forward to. Not sure who they're from (one of my 5 obviously!)Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0 -

Why on earth would he take a lid? :mad:As my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
