  • I agree too FTM. We havent any spare cash but this week being off I've seen that I dont have to spend or have money to have fun with the boys. We baked alot of treats and I have lots of treat foods left which I stocked up on offer. Ive sorted the boys wardrobes sold some of their old clothes on ebay(yay-£30 today!) and put away some of aarons stuff for ethan. Their room feels a little less cluttered and I have extra cash to put in the holiday fund - which Im saving through using ebay and saving bits of cash.

I guess I've realised that money isnt as imprtant as I thought it was - we played a game of throwing balls in a bucket and then musical statues today!

Yep I feel better than yeasterday, which is good.....the weather lifts us I think, its so nice to get outside and do a few things, to breathe some fresh air is so good..........

I love to get out and clean my hens out, feed water, do nesting boxes etc, etc, that always lift me even if the weather is crap...........then collect beautiful fresh eggs..!:D...

We are starting to get lighter evenings now , my SAD is getting so much better now, god it felt like winter lasted a whole year, I know there was other folks on here that also suffered SAD, hope your all doing ok now the weather is perking up abit too..............

Im going to grow some veg in pots this year as my hens have took up my veg space.!!, I planted one plum tree , one bramley apple, and one coxs pippin, trees a few yrs ago , had fruit last year so hope for more this year.............no frogspwan in the wildlife pond yet, should happen in March as water warms up abit................Got loads of washing dried today ,duvets, sheets, etc ...right up to date now..........nice to get some fresh air through the laundry, saves drying it too.............had loads of birds on my feeding station again today, got some pretty goldfinches that come all the time .......beautiful birds........no tits checking the nesting boxes yet, ive got 9 boxes up through out the garden, all different sizes, had blue tits nest here last year..............

Been living off the freezer this week so it cut down shopping abit, my neighbour gave me some leeks and sprouting brocolli from his garden so fresh and tasty, been quite a cheap week for fresh veg for me, I give him some of my eggs ,so we swap stuff which is good for both of us...............

yes, self-reliance is an incredibly powerful feeling! Enjoy it! I always feel quite proud of myself when I'm able to 'mend' something - a missing button on DD's pyjama top, fixing a broken zip on OH's 'man bag' (I know - don't ask). Last week, I crocheted(sp?) a tea cosy and it came out great and I am just a beginner at crochet anyway. I'm a big believer that all of our OS ways should be considered accomplishments.

What an incredible post! I went to buy a new tea pot today as m old one smashed and i thought i would get a new tea cosy and the cheapest one i could find was £4.99 and i thought sod that i could crochet one. Do you have a pattern you could send me?

Other than that i have had a very OS day. I went and got three packs of the belly pork, did a couple of hours in my allotment and have just cooked a roast chicken and the carcass is simmering making a lovely soup for tomorrow night.

It's been a difficult week for me and mine, my Dad passed away 1 week ago. Me and Mum were at his bedside in hospital when he passed away. It all feels very surreal. When my fianc! died almost 19 years ago was the last time i lost someone my whole world revolved around, so it's tough. There has to be a post mortem so the funeral is not arranged and we do not know when it will take place.

At first me and my DD stayed at my parents home, then at the end of this week i had a talk with Mum and we agreed me and DD wuld come home, we only live 10 mins away so i can be there in a jiffy and see mum every day anyway.

Today I took mum out to buy some shoes as she wanted some for the funeral and she can only wear one type of shoe due to plates and wires in one of her feet. We managed to get some, thankfully. We then went to Mr. M's to do a bit of shopping and Mum treated me to lunch, bless her.

Before Dad passed, a couple of weeks ago, i had started to sow seeds but now it all seems rather inane...however, i AM going to pull my finger out, so to speak, because Dad was really proud of me for growing my own last year and i know he would want me to get on with it...also it will help me to be doing something and having something else to focus on over the coming weeks and months.

It hailed it down here this afternoon, so no hope of putting my broad bean seedlings (which are approx 12 inches tall already), out yet. Will erect one of my upright growhouses when the weather improves and bung them in there with some garden fleece/bubblewrap around them.

This evening i have made some peanut butter and choc chip cookies and a couple of loaves of 'artisan bread'.

  • Kathoholics - I am so sorry about your dad. My deepest sympathies to you, your mum and family.
When my dad died suddenly last eat it was surreal - I still think I havent seen him for ages then remember why. I dont know if its any help but the funeral helped bring a little closure for me - we had to wait for a post mortem too so it was a while we had to wait.

    Take care of you xxx

Katholicos, I am very lucky as I still have 3 out of 4 grandparents and I am 41 so I cannot even begin to imagine what you are going through. I just wanted to wish you and your family well at this difficult time. x
