  • Daniel, from one who is already IN the payday loan trap, please don't take out a payday loan!! From personal experience, I know that even if you think you can manage to pay it off, the excessive interest they charge usually means that you end up taking out a bigger loan the next month, and so on. I'm now stuck with paying out over 2/3 of my pay every month, I then run out of pay just after I'm paid and have to take out another one... and so the cycle goes.
If you MUST borrow, is there not anyone else you can use???
(Though if you are considering a payday loan I guess your credit must be as bad as mine and you have no other option )

employer is prob the first option, advance on wages
  • Wonga like any other Payday loan company are a law unto themselves. They generally only check the electoral roll to see if you're on there, and as far as I know they accept people with bad credit histories so what would be the use of doing a credit check. They will also ring your employer to check you are employed. So it could be absolutely anything that is causing them to refuse your loan application. If you ring them they won't elaborate to be honest with you, they'll just palm you off with the excuse that you did not meet their criteria.
As blonde_equestrienne has said though, you really don't want to go down that path at all, it's a slippery slope to financial disaster. It is totally infuriating especially when you see their adverts online and on TV and they brag about their acceptance rates being so high. Believe me you will be so happy when it comes to payday and you haven't got to pay a big chunk of it to Wonga.

They searched CallCredit when I applied.

Depends on how much the OP needed and what is was for. For example, if they have a large(ish) balance on a high APR credit card and are, say, £100 short of clearing it in full, then borrowing from Wonga for a couple of days may well work out a lot cheaper than incurring the interest on the CC balance - I know it did for me - it cost me around £10 in Wonga fees to borrow £120 for a couple of days instead of incurring about £50 in CC interest... A no-brainer really.

Used wisely and as a true advance on wages - and not an extension to them, payday loans can be useful and work out to be beneficial. Just don't become reliant on them.
My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

If you failed to get a loan from these sharks I would suggest talking to Barry The Baptist, he does loans and there's no credit check needed.

OP it is indeed a blessing you've been refused and a cheap lesson for you to learn. Listen to blonde_equestrienne who has first hand experience of how much damage these guys can do.

Go over to the DFW board and post an SOA ,those guys are good and wont judge you.

    Good Luck

    Wrong again!
I have no idea where your facts are coming from, but i suspect it's from your imagination as both of your facts are 100% incorrect.

Actually I got the information from Wonga themselves. The reason I know that they call your employer is because I had problems when they rang mine. (They asked if I worked there but used my middle name instead of my first name). Maybe they don't always do this, I don't know - I can only speak from my personal experiences. They did eventually confirm I worked there when Wonga called back and gave my correct name.

Was there any need to be so rude by the way. Just because my opinion is different to yours doesn't mean it's all in my imagination. This website is all about getting different peoples opinions. We all know Payday loan companies pick and choose what rules to work by. I am going on experience from my dealings with Wonga and other Payday loan companies. If you don't agree to something said on here would it not be nicer to just say that you don't agree with it, rather than being totally rude. :(
