Was it an NHS appointment in England or Wales?
If so, they can't charge.
If a private appointment or you're in Scotland or N.I. - they can.How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I can't believe that someone that knows they have an appointment and knows the bus service is bad cannot get off their butt early enough to get the earlier bus.
If there is nothing else to do where your dentist is then take a book and find somewhere to sit and read for an hour.
I do not drive but I do not miss appointments.
If it really is so hard for you to get there then can you get a dentist that is a bit closer?
To be honest I think a lot of dentists would have thrown you off the books if you had missed 2 appointments a year for 6 years, simple.
Don't forget, we in England are basically paying for your dental treatment in Scotland. Be grateful it is free, get off your butt early enough to make it and show them a little respect. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

England, It was an hygienist appointment which I have to do privately as nhs doesn't cover it.0 -
They can charge then.
It might be worth an 'I'm very sorry' sort of letter, and detail the problems you had that morning. If you're a regular patient with good punctuality normally - you might get lucky. How to find a dentist.

Pay attention at the back !
The original post is nearly four years old, and the poster hasn't been back since, so your rant is rather wasted.....0 -

I would issue a courts summons for the fee due and de-register your from my practice.
No wonder you are unemployed with your attitude, no one owes you a living.
So grow up, man up and leave home early!
Simples
This ^^^
I remember someone I knew missing 3 appointments in 9 months, (she kept forgetting!!!) and on the third, the dentist cancelled her membership from the practice. No second chances (despite her sending in a written apology) nothing. She had to go private for a year until a space on another NHS registered dentist came up, and she has not missed an appointment since!
Some people simply don't realise how lucky they are to live in this country, especially the ones who have FREE DENTAL TREATMENT and still can't be bothered to turn up for it, and then blame everyone else for their missed appointments and then don't think they should have to pay their fines.
12 appointments missed in 5 or 6 years! That's disgraceful!You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I don't think I've ever missed a dental appointment in my life and I'm 46.
I can't see the problem in getting an alarm or a diary.
If I'm going somewhere by public transport then I make sure I get there on time and allow for delays.0 -
Thankyou toothsmith.
Lisyloo, you have been very fortunate to have never had circumstances beyond your control. Congrats:T0 -

blustruck, I don't think Lisyloo's comments (or Peter333's or Enterprise 1701C's) are aimed at you - you've chosen to post on a really old thread rather than start a new one and people are reading from the start and commenting on the OP, who has rather less of an excuse than you have for not attending, having missed 'maybe a dozen' appointments over a few years.0 -
