Thanks

  • Are you using one of those popcorn makers or a pan. If its a pan then you can add the flavourings while the corn's popping or just after to the pan....if you're using a machine you'll have to empty it all into a large tub witha lid (or large sandwich bag and shake to make the stuff stick).

Sticky toffee (2tbsp of brown sugar 1tbsp of butter) put in the bottom of a pan on high heat until its all dark and bubbly - no gritty bits and nice and foamy. Keep stirring all the time so it doesn't separate or burn, pour this over your popcorn and it goes all sticky and toffee'ish. CAREFUL WITH HOT/MELTED SUGAR it is like molten lava and will burn like hell!!!! You can even use variations of golden syrup or honey instead of brown sugar.

You can put the popcorn in a baking tray/roasting dish and shake over some rock salt and balsamic vinegar...the vinegar makes it go a bit soggy so just pop it in the oven for a minute or two to crisp it up again.

Have you tried minty popcorn? with a pestle & mortar (or the handle of a rolling pin) squash up some granulated sugar (not caster...that's too fine) into some mint leaves then sprinkle the paste over the popcorn

You could heat a few tbsp of caster sugar (or any white) in a pan with a few drops of flavouring (vanilla essence or rum or banana orange etc - you know the types, those little bottles that are next to the food colouring in the supermarkets). Once its gone all bubbled and liquid you can pour your sugar syrup over the popcorn. Or if you're a bit scared of getting sugar burns, mix it in a mug with a spoon into a thick paste then sprinkle over a roasting tray of popcorn and let the oven melt it for you.
Or what about mixing cinnamon and a bit of ginger or mixed spice with some fine sugar to make a christmassy tasting sugar mix. You can sprinkle on the popcorn and pop it in the oven to melt and go sticky?

Chilli flakes work quite well if you like spicey. Or you can shake on some paprika or some of those BBQ seasoning sachets...if it wont stick, just melt some butter in a pan or in the microwave (on low heat....as it burns easily) and drizzle that over the popcorn first then the spices should stick. again if its too soggy, whack it in the oven for a bit to crisp up.
