Quite..... if the typical ability level of parts of the general public is now 'unable to read anything they sign' and 'unable to check on their outgoings even once in a 10 year period' god knows how we're ever going to get the economy going again

You have hit the nail on the head. The result of god knows how many years of nanny state mentailty is that consumers should for some reason not have to be accountable for their actions.

If they signed a contract that they now don't like then the view is that they must have been wronged in some way and therefore no longer responsible for fulfilling their part of the bargain.

Such a situation clearly cannot exist in reality because in any advanced society there needs to be the ability to have meaningful and binding contracts between parties. Thankfully the courts still appear to realise this and therefore generally uphold sensibly worded contracts in accordance with the law.

The best advice, therefore, that can be given to those who come onto forums looking for ways in which to worm out of their obligatinos is to man up, take some responsibility (which for some will be an entirely new concept that could have life changing positive spin offs) and tackle the issue in an adult manner.

Sadly there will always be those who eagerly sign anything in front of them without reading it first, because they just want to get their hands on the loot. No amount of well meaning legislation, cooling off periods or pre contractual explanations will ever solve this issue.

i have a problem with the dreaded tsb bank too.....i took out a loan in 2005 for £1000..i was told i wud be covered in the cases of death, redundancy etc u no the usual crap...so i signed stupidly....i was made redundante in 2008 and was told i wod still have to pay it back even tho i was on bneifits by then....i explained all this but they didnt want to know as per....i ended up having to pay £7.50pr wk which realli breaks u wen on benifits....their reasons where.i was covered for redundancy but onli if i was on job seekers not income support.they have also been charging me on my ccount for the past well over 10yrs now for services charges of £8.75pr mth as i have a select acc which i have cover for mobile phone, the AA (dont even have a car and cant drive), plus a few other tings.....i wud never have had a selcet acc if i new i wud be charged every month for it, and have never needed a car so why wud i have opted for cover on it, which obviously means i have never used tis cover for anythink as i didnt no i had it..............con artists r all they r.....

Hardly a con. All the information you need is readily available, and you could have cancelled it at any time. Stop blaming others for problems of your own making.

Man up and take responsibility for your own actions, or lack of.

It's the usual story, blame everyone else, it's not my fault

Don't know about the rest of you but struggled to read Too08's post.

If Too08 has the same struggle to read our posts, then maybe a contract which hasn't been written in barely legible text speak is a bridge too far.

I gave up with too08's post. I could make absolutely no sense out of it at all.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Probably a bit harsh, perhaps uneducated and naive might be a better term to use.

To original OP he would have walked out of the branch with a PRINTED CCA AGREEMENT - if he/she says anything else he/she is lying!

I'm not at all stupid people, i thought the service charge was part of the overdraft fees, oh i get it, I said the words "I'm on benefits, single parent" yes of course all us people on benefits are apparently stupid and uneducated. You dont know me so dont judge me. I came here looking for advice not to be judged...........

Sorry for any misunderstandings. Hope things work out for you.
