Advice

Been hanging around lurking and reading the forum for a while now thought I might post and ask a question.

I wondered if it was worth putting in a claim for bank charges, my wife and I have been on a DMP with the CCCS for at least five years now.

Our DMP currently shows as ending December 2015, but owing to a change in circumstances it's likely to extend by at least another 3 years :( as we'll need to reduce the monthly payment.

There just doesn't seem to be an end in sight!

I believe some (Halifax especially) effectively doubled our debt with charges and interest. Back when we started the DMP my wife and I suffered terribly with depression, caused because of my wife's troubled pregnancy (our lovely daughter was delivered by emergency C-Section after nurses in Maternity thought she'd died) which in turn made her suffer from post natal depression, which had a a knock on effect to me.

Sorry got carried away there. Any suggestion welcome

I don't know sorry but i've bumped it in case someone does:)

  • I would consider complaining - after all what have you got to loose (apart from the debt) - check out Martins guide to see if reclaiming is still possible for those in hardship or not.
Secondly I would complain to Halifax that they are still adding interest and charges 5 years in to your Dmp and really not helping you. I would then folow it up with a complaint to the ombudsman about Halifax not helping you and not giving you a fair chance etc- obviously you have to wait and see what Halifax say first but some people have had success when going to the ombudsman with charges.
Thirdly - are you geting all the benefits you are entitled to?
Fourthly - is a dmp the right option for you? if you have been on a dmp for 5 years and predict another 4 - that's a long time for a dmp - perhaps another debt solution would be better?
    Good Luck
