  • We haven't booked our venue yet, but are in negotiations. They want to charge £17 per bottle of wine. Way too much for the guests to pay to have a good time. I just said politely that I thought that it was too much, was there anything they could offer (we'll be buying at least 25 bottles). She didn't know, but said she would ask the bar manager...we'll wait & see what he comes back with...

Just be polite, I find people are more receptive if you're genuinely not going to be able to afford it unless they alter the deal. If the think you're being difficult & could really pay full price, they might be difficult too!!!

In regards to the £17 bottle of wine  Why don't you ask them what they charge for corkage. When booking my wedding the woman told us we would be cheaper doing it that way!

Our venue charges a whopping £10 per bottle corkage!! Their cheapest reds, whites and roses are £15 a bottle, £22.50 for sparkling rose (reception drink) and £18 per bottle for sparkling white for the toast. Knowing some friends of ours are getting wed at the same venue got a great bulk corkage deal, we opted for the same strategy when we saw the planner. We got a price for bulk, or they lowered it to £8.50 per bottle. Didn't get us quite as far, but we're taking 64+ bottles of our own wines (with co-ordinating bottle labels too) and we think it will be save us about £500 doing it that way! Some of our friends run their own little hotel and they said a tenner was pretty standard for corkage

I'm thinking about taking my own wine too - I'm a bit fussy and order from the continent quite often! You can get vino really cheap if you buy in bulk too, but it's just a case of doing some sums and seeing what the difference is... My meeting with the venue coordinator is next Saturday - am getting excited now!
  • My venue want £14 a bottle corkage!!! So there's really no point in doing it that way (which is obviously why it's so high!)

Since found out that at Christmas parties the venue were selling wine for £13 a bottle, so I know they can do it!

    Good luck Alibear!

Our venue was charging £12 for a bottle of wine or £10 corkage. I got them down to £6 a bottlecorkage, first just by asking for a cheaper deal and then got a little more off by agreeing to take a slightly dearer package on the canapes (what they dont know if that we're taking so much wine to the venue that the extra canape cost is tiny compared to the saving on the corkage!)
