confused about frozen accountsw.

I've read through the bankrupty help thread and noticed my Yorkshire basic bank account is not listed as bankrupt friendly.

I'm coming out of a failed IVA and will be going to court in 2 weeks will I still need another account?

I worried about my rent and bills

I'd really appreciate a quick response

I can't remember if it was Yorkshire bank or building society, but some people have said favourable things about one of those.

I wouldn't take a chance though. If you can, a Barclays Cashcard or Coop Casminder would be safer.

It Yorkshire Building Society that are BR friendly but I think it is only their Internet Saver account, don't know of any one who has any other account with them and is BR.

H0958, as Fermi has said the only 2 banks that are BR friendly for sure are the Co-op (Cashminder) and Barclays (Cash account)

Thanks so much for the advice my head is spinning at the minute, I've never felt so stressed in my life.

I triead the co -op one when i started my IVA and they would not give me one. I guess its barclays.

I take it I should open this after the court hearing?
  • you can apply for it now, but you could try talking to your existing bank, I am BR but continue to use my lloyds account which I had before BR. I discussed with them before it happened, and they were great

Nope! open them now if you wish, as said they are BR friendly and don't freeze the accounts. It is good to get as much in place as you can before BR.

thanks people i really am struggling to keep up. One more thing I am worried about is timing, I handing my keys back from my house and moving into the rented accomodation next week. Is it worth delaying the court date until all the bills are up and running?

TQ, it is very hit a miss with the other banks whether they will or won't. What happens with one, won't happen with another. We have had people told that their accounts would be ok and then a few weeks after BR they freeze it and tell the person to 'go away'.

If you do talk to them and they say they won't close it then it would still be a good idea to have another running and every thing changed over, then if they leave it open you have the bonus of 2 accounts. One for bills and one for spends or what ever.

Entirely up to you but I would be inclined to wait until you are settled in the new house and not so stressed.

Don't forget to take a dated photo of the meter readings if you can. Inform the utilities/water of the reading when you move out. Let the council know the property is empty so you get the council tax exemption. Get a mail redirect done as well.

I feel like the clock is ticking due to the creditors and NR calling me 20 times a day. I was advised to stop paying the mortgage and IVA before christmas.

Is their any risk in pushing the court date out a week
