Hi folks,

We need to ask you for some help please.

Have you recently seen a survey pop-up about MoneySavingExpert, Tooth Whitening or Diet Pills? If so, please tell us!

We’ve had reports from people saying they’ve seen a survey pop-up on MoneySavingExpert.com asking questions about our site and giving a tooth whitening or diet pill offer.

As far as we can gather these reports have been from people using the Freebies board so it's possible it may be related to something on there. Obviously we want to investigate further.

What to do if you have seen it

If you see such a survey pop-up please let us know here by replying to this thread with as much of the info below as possible. Close the survey straight away and ignore it.

Please remember we never have survey pop-ups on MoneySavingExpert.com and we’d never, ever ask for your credit card details. We’ve also never included any tooth whitening Freebies in the weekly email.

What information you can give us that will help

• The tooth whitening company’s name

• Date and time this happened

• Were you looking at the MoneySavingExpert.com main site or the forum?

• If the forum, which board eg, Freebies, Oldstyle?

• Which discussion thread did you have open if any?

• What other windows/tabs did you have open at the same time?

• Had you recently clicked a link to an external site from ours? What was it?

I had one yesterday evening when I was viewing the Shop Dont Drop board, I was not signed in at the time and I cant even remember what it was about, I closed it straight away without even reading it
Sorry I cant give any more details, I was a bit annoyed that it had appeared.
I did not have any other windows open at the time and I have not clicked any external links from this site for a while.

I am fairly certain that MSE has no part to play in this!

This appears to be caused by AdWare unknowingly installed on people's PCs,
Originated possibly from a combination of Facebook, Gamevance and this online survey Company

Most likely, people have either played a game or accepted an app which has also added this AdWare to their PCs.

It is also likely they would very occasionally see these very same surveys on other sites, with just the sitename changing.

I picked up this URL from another site where 1 or 2 of their visitors were having the same problem.
when the AdWare runs it will change the URL to that of the site being visited.

if you complete the survey, just for the hell of it then you will see that you do get the offers along the lines of what was suggested.

Here is the URL i modified to show MoneySavingExpert

if you change the name to something else, such as Martins-Site.com
then you can see that it changes all the relevant branding etc.

So hopefully you guys don't need to look any further for that needle in a haystack

Thats all very good but I have never been to any of these sites, I dont use this computer for playing games and have never accepted an app of any kind.

I seem to be the only member that has had the pop-up though.

I very rarely click on external links that this site posts, I am certainly not going to click on a link from a new member.
I have already stated that I can't remember what the popup was about, it was on my screen very briefly.
