DJ/Lighting Questions

I gave my H2B the job of looking for a DJ, he also wants impressive coloured up-lighting in the barn and garden where we're getting married.

He's just called me to say he found an events company he likes the sound of and I must admit they sound very impressive but they want £700! I can't believe my OH was actually considering it!

I have to admit I don't know how much this sort of thing would cost but I was hoping for about half this amount for a DJ and all day lighting hire.

How much is considered to be a reasonable price for this sort of service? Don't suppose anyone can recommend a resonably priced company for this sort of thing in the Hertfordshire area?

    Hi AppleCore,
I dont know what size of garden and barn you have , but if you are wanting an impressive light display all day and night, along with a dj, I would say £700.00 is a reasonable amount to pay.
The set-up time alone with the uplighting would be considerable and is certainly not something you want to scrimp on.
A professional dj for a wedding would be minimum £220.00 and anything upto £4/500. Again, bearing in mind the part your reception plays in making your day special...dont go cheap. You really do get what you pay for.
Try uk-disco.co.uk for a list of disco/event companies in your area. Look at their websites, check for public liability,PAT tests, produb licence etc.
Pick one, arrange a meeting and if you are happy with what they will provide, make the booking.
If you want uplighting you will have to pay for it. no cheap options here.
Hope this helps and have a great day.
ps. trust the future hubby on this one...boys and their toys !!!

I have found that any events company will charge more than your normal everyday disco guy.

I had quotes ranging from £250 upto £700. With lighting it was more the upper scale. I eventually found these

    http://www.sparklingdiscos.co.uk/

Although in the north west it might give you an idea on what you can get for the cost. They quoted £200 disco only, £250 for disco and uplighting in the room, and £290 for the above plus a projector screen that guests can bluetooth real time photos to the screen for everyone to see.

We just chose the uplighters and disco. 3pm set up and starting around 7.30pm until midnight.
  • Really helpful, thank you.

Sparkling Disco's looks amazing and a great price, shame we're not in that area.

We'll keep shopping around, £700 still seems like a huge amount of money to me!
