I've worked (no longer do) for a number of big brand companies who have opened web-sites selling their products at v high prices compared to the discounters. They do this because they don't want to upset their trade partners.
But there's one secret to buying - go and look for "clearance" or even better "refurbished" products. In my last job TV's with damaged boxes (no damage to TV) went out on refurbished. So there was nothing wrong with the TV just the box. I think you'll find this is common to most of the manufacturers.
Try the TomTom outlet store as an example.
