Working out best time to resign

A friend of mine works for a company and is monthly paid on the 10th. She is paid 2 weeks in advance and is now looking to change jobs , but without alerting her manager or HR , any earlier than necessary ,e.g asking them, she is trying to work out the best time to hand in her notice, without losing any money . I cant work it out , can anybody help???? :confused:

    her manager or HR will find out unless of course shes on holiday then she wouldnt,

    Id just be straight up with the manager

    If she has to give a month's notice, it's not going to make any difference when she hands in her notice, is it? If she hands it in a week before she's paid, she'll get her normal wages and then when she goes she'll get another week's worth.

    If she only needs to give a week's notice, that would be very unusual in a monthly paid job, and they'll want back whatever she's been overpaid.

    Thanks for your help , you can see why I couldnt work it out!
    I dont thinks she was trying to get money she wasnt entitled to , well at least I hope she wasnt, but I think things are pretty tense for her and she just want to avoid any problems from her manager .
  • There are some good and bad times to hand in your notice. This is irrespective of when you get paid.

    It's really silly to hand your notice in now, if you don't have to leave the job. Your job will run out on 16th December. Does anyone do any serious work between 16th December and New Year? - I'm sure things slack off, even in manufacturing industries where the costs of running the machines don't change.

    No-one recruits much between now and the New Year, either. And it will take them a while to get going in the NY.

    So, conclusion - if she wants a break before her new job, leave resigning until 2nd Dec (assuming she has to give a month). She will then be unemployed from 2nd Jan. (If she has to give 4 weeks' notice, don't hand it in until 5th Dec). Remember that any hols she is owed may come out of her notice period - I mean she may be forced to take the period as hol, so if she is owed any holiday, quite frankly I would leave handing in notice until after Xmas.

    If she thinks the period after she's handed in her notice is going to be horrible, and she has to give a month, then quite frankly I would hand in notice on 1st Feb as it's the shortest month!!!! :D
