Working hours Statutory rights - No contract?

Hi Everyone.

I have an awkard situation with my employer. I was interviewed for my current role in Dec 2009, and was told I would be servicing one client intially, then 2 clients making the job full time. The job pays a day rate (although I sometimes do half days).

I started in March 2010, doing a few odd days, and I did the same in April. From May I started servicing the first client, and because of playing 'catch up', the job was full time from this point on. By the time I had caught up, the second client required servicing, meaning that the job has been continuously full time since 01 May 2010.

My problem is that my employer has now had an operational change, meaning that (with very rare exceptions) I am now only servicing the one client, making me part time. In fact, there is only one weeks worth of work to do in Feb, and none in March!

I cannot afford to be in a part time job, and it wasn't what I agreed to initially.

I have tried emailing my employer (I work from home and prefer email as there is then a record of communications) with my concerns, but after an initial 'I'll talk to the MD about it' from the HR dept, I have had nothing back. I have sent a follow up email that has been read, but not acknowledged.

I have never been offered a contract to sign, but am not self-employed, and get holiday pay (sadly used up now).

I am tearing my hair out with worry about this, as my income will not meet my bills for Feb's paypacket as it is...

Any advice on my legal standing very gratefully recieved.

Thanks
