Problems with play.com

I've recently registered with play.com as a result of the Independent free DVD offer - what a mess that was - and have had a bit of trouble with them.
The free DVD is out of stock despite the fact it was, according to their website, still in stock at the time of order. Of course, I only had a choice of one film due to the fact that they messed up the e-mail with the voucher code in it...
I also ordered a half price digital camera for £49.99, again listed as being in stock but not due to be sent out until 13th November.
Upon checking my order status, my account page - which took some navigating to get anything sensible from - stated that the two items were on their way. Strangely, it also stated that I had placed my orders on the 1st of January 1900. Clearly, not 100% accurate...
I decided to confirm this, so phoned the helpdesk and was told that the camera is out of stock and they won't be getting any more in. Also, the DVD is out of stock but they'll send one when it arrives. With regards to the camera, they told me to 'just cancel it' on my account page. Well, thanks for letting me know. Customer service, anyone...?
I've just sent an e-mail to them complaining about this and asking why I should remain a customer after having had such a negative experience.
Has anyone else had similar problems with play or is the Ravenhill curse striking once more......?

I have found play.com to be very good over a period of several years.
One of my family had he same problem with the INDEPENDENT freebie
Maybe you will get some sort of voucher from your complaint as an incentive to give them another chance to provide good service.0 -
Had same problem with my Elmo order - no status was appearing so i asked what was happening and they told me to cancel my order as they would have no stock.0

Apparantly play.com were having problems recently regarding the order history showing the wrong dates and items dissapearing from your orders but they are suppose to be on the case
I also applied for the free DVD but have not heard anything but not too concerned
I would reccomend play.com as I have been using them for a few years with no real problems apart from one DVD which was priced wrong and I never received it but am happy with their service0 -
I've always been happy with their service.
Haven't used them much lately though as the comparison sites usually find a cheaper site for most items.0 -
Well, it looks like I just caught them at a bad time then.
I shall give them the benefit of the doubt and see if the service improves...
Thanks for the replies, folks.0 -

Well, I've been using them since 3rd Jan 1900 and, although I had to wait a fair while for my first order (the DVD of the highly acclaimed documentary 'Why Arthur Balfour Will Never Be PM' - egg on their faces or what!?), they've been pretty good since then. But to be fair, there was a pile-up of Mail carriages on the Fosse Way so it wasn't entirely their fault.
