Huge sigh.... here goes

Hello everyone :)

I've been browsing this site for years (shame on me for not posting sooner) but it's taken me till now to actually register and post!

I'll go more into detail later with my SOA, but in a nutshell, I owe 35k  all to Lloyds. I have two loans and one credit card. One loan is for 20k, the other is for 10k and I have 5k on my credit card.

Basically, I'm sick of not being able to sleep at night, thinking about my debt 24/7. Stress can be known to aid in weightloss.... if only I was that lucky lol. I've been on the CCCS website today and put in all my info, to which the best solution they offer me is a DMP which I'm happy with.

A bit about me.... I was married for 8 years, hubby introduced me to credit cards (not his fault) and I managed to rack up this amount of debt in that time. HOW the hell did I manage it?! I've nothing to show for it, just used them for day to day living. We divorced two years ago due to debt problems but I'm now with a perfect guy who I live with, he knows about my debt and that was a massive relief in itself!

I just want this all to end... ideally, I'd like to skip forward a few months to when everything is set up - I'm not looking forward to getting post from Lloyds once this all goes ahead... I have applied online for another bank account this morning with Santander, I rushed into it without researching properly first, and from what I can tell, I think I should have applied to Barclays for a basic account first. I've already screwed up!!

Sorry if this has depressed you all on this lovely sunny Thursday morning. I will go through everything later and post up my SOA probably in the morning. I have a massive headache!

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest guys :)

    Hello,

You've already taken the hardest step of all which is deciding to do something to sort out your situation, so well done. I am new to this site myself but have already learned loads from posts on here so I am sure you will get good advice to help you.

  • Hi Clarie and Jules - thanks for your replies :)

Every time I think about my debt my heart skips a beat, but that's pretty much how it's been for the past few years.
I'm ashamed of myself for getting into this much debt but am hopeful that I will get it sorted!

When I think of how much I could save if I didn't have to pay off debt... well, £800 to be exact!

Will definately post my soa and thanks again for the welcome :) x
  • Hi,
We have all been there, made mistakes followed by even more mistakes. The peeps on this board are great, they don't judge, they just help. I am on a new DMP with CCCS and its great. I had a few credit card company phone calls, but if you firmly tell them you have started a DMP and then put the phone down they gradually tail off. You will however gets lots of those lovely white envelopes telling you how much you owe them etc. Just pile them to-gether in a folder and forget them.
The best bank I found was the Co-Operative bank. you can ring them and start the setting up process for a simple 'non credit' account. If you have no Co-op bank near you, you simply use your nearest post office to pay in and withdraw money. Its all free.
So the best of luck for taking the first step.
    Ron.
