People have a very large buffer now. We could pay higher rates if we had to. Rather enjoy the low ones though. Simple as that.

"People have a very large buffer now."

    Sweeping generalisation.

I met someone the other day who I had not spoken to for a few years. Apparently, things haven't been so good for him, and an interest rate rise is the last thing he needs. His words to me "I wish we hadn't moved to this place 7 years ago". It wasn't exactly a mansion, and he only climbed 1 rung of the "ladder".

This has not benefited me at all in fact I am a lot worst off as I don't have a mortgage, no other debts and use interest on my savings to live on (or did) - I now have to dib into my capital which is not fair.

I can not wait for rates to go back up the sooner and the higher the better.

    Prepare for some critical comments.

Perhaps you should invest your savings instead? As I have found, it certainly beats moaning about poor returns from your savings account.

Perhaps you should avoid making trivial and unhelpful comments without knowing a person's personal circumstances?

I am at the age when 'investing' my not excessive savings would be too much of a risk – at least for me. It would, in fact, be gambling.

Jolly good for you that you've found your investments profitable and don't feel the need to 'moan'.

The days of 'sit on your ar se' and get 5+% for nothing have gone, the rates are out there coupled with the risk attached.
