can they do this?

:mad:i have worked in the NHS (clerical) for 13 yrs part-time. (16 hrs)

recently there have been various cuts and down grading.

i was working 2 days, (2 x 8 hour shifts),
now ive had my hours reduced by 2 and now work
1 x 5 hour shift and 2 x 4 hour shifts, thus spreading less working hours over 3 days.

is this acceptable?

thanks
molly

What does your contract say your hours and days are?

Did they go through any process of consultation / warning, or just tell you one morning and change it a week later?

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

re: notification, we were all warned and consulted and informed that our contracts were now defunct as those jobs no longer existed.
    their word is 'displaced'.
can they just alter your working hours like that by claiming you now have a different job, even when u are still doing the same job, just different hours.

in my case there are 3 of us covering a weeks hours
    7.30-7.30
1 person wanted to do long days so she used her hours up with 2 x 12 hour days
1 person wanted to remain on days as she was and took 3 x 8 hour shifts (refusing to do long days)
so i got left with 2 x 4/1 x 5 hour shifts at the end of the day (i was originally doing 2 x 8 hour shifts)

    does this seem fair?

doesn't seem fair to me, were the other two workers doing similar hours to yourself prior to the change?

Sorry this is off topic but the above shows how flexible the NHS can be. Does the person who is working 12 hours in one day really provide a consistent level of service over that time?

OP - in this revision to hours, they have treated all three of you equally (all with 2 fewer hours in a week) but, of course, you have been disproportionately affected because of your lower number of hours. Is it too late to object on the grounds of the percentage reduction for each of you?

At least they haven't tried downgrading your job. I'm seeing "restructuring" with jobs being downgraded with no evidence of proper job evaluation. (Eg I wonder about Supervisors at AfC Band 3.)

I think this is automatic potential redundancy.
if you feel the alternative offered is not suitable tell them they have to justify that it is or give redundancy.
