Wedding ring being made bigger?

First of all apologies if this is in the wrong section but i'm looking for a bit of advice.

I got married in December 08 after being very poorly where my weight had dropped from 18 Stone to just under 10 Stone. Since then I have pretty much recovered from my illnes but have put a few stone back on and now my wedding ring doesn't fit me.

Does anyone know of the best way to get it made bigger or will it be cheaper to just buy a new ring?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

It's quite difficult, I think, to have a ring made bigger. They have to stretch it (I think) Best to go speak to a jeweller- they'll tell you if it's a possibilty :)

ok...it depends a lot on the style of the ring that you have as to if it can be easily made bigger. If it is plain in design and doesn't have a continual marking around it then it is a simple process to go up or indeed down by about 3 sizes depending on how thick the band of gold is. If you need it extending more than that then a piece of matching gold can possibly be added although it will increase the price and the time it takes to do.
It should cost around £20 to increase the size of the ring if no extra gold is used and a obviously more if extra matching gold needs to be used.
Take your ring to a good jewellers...possibly one that does repairs on site and they should easily be able to give you a quote for the work....it is not a difficult thing for an experienced jeweller to do as long as the ring is plain and without pattern.
If your ring is patterned..then the process is a little more difficult and will require an experienced jeweller....you will certainly need to go to a jeweller that makes rings rather than just sells them so you are looking usually for and independant one rather than a high streer chain...the jeweller will be able to discuss your options..the more difficult the pattern the is to copy the more the cost will go up...at this point its then up to you if you choose to buy a new ring or not

Sometimes adding a piece to a ring can damage or completely remove the hallmark. check this with a jeweller before going ahead.

  • Take it to a jewllers and get them to check - I have just had my rings enlarged and my wedding ring cost £35 to be stretched whereas my engagement had to go bigger cost £46. My wedding ring also had engraving on the outside but they still managed to do it. All depends on what the size difference is.
