Hi,

A brief history. I am serving in the forces and left Gemany in June 2008 as I was posted back to the UK. Prior to doing so I cancelled my Deutsch Telekom services by letter which had to be signed by a officer confirming my posting back to the UK.

All went swimmingly until around October 2010 when I started receiving letters from CCI LEGAL who are collecting on behalf of Deutsch Telekom regarding charges of over £500.00. All Deutsch Telekom bills were paid monthly without fail via direct debit and everything was settled before leaving.

They have written to me time and time again and I am still not certain what the charges are actually for until today I received this unprofessional e-mail:

Good Afternoon

Our client has advised that this contract had a minimum duration and could therefore not being cancelled to a certain date! Our client always sends out a confirmation of cancellation when a cancellation comes in.

Please provide the said writing. If you are unable to provide it then you are liable for this claim.
Collections Department

Please note we had the telephone/ internet from late 2004 up to june 2008 and they have attached a pdf with an overview of charges which start from September 2009 15 months after leaving the country.

Any help or advise greatfully received.

Many thanks.

  • Ask them for a copy of the contract.

You say that the letter had to be signed by an officer confirming you were moving so did you know that the contract was ongoing but were advised that in your circumstances they would accept the cancellation?

How long do they think the contract was for? 2004-2008 seems a long time. Why do the charges start in Sept 09? What happened for July 08 - Aug 09?

I think you need to write them a letter basically saying prove it.

    Hi Blueangel,
Thanks for the info. On cancelling the contract there wasn't any issues or problems. Gave them the required notice etc. I have no idea why the charges start Sept 2009 all seems very odd to me. I am in the process of writing to them to clarify but CCI Legal then tend to go back to the client regarding questions that I have and as in the e-mail sent to me above I get very little info in return. I will also be requesting a copy of the contract but won't understand a word of it lol.
Good question regarding what happened re July 08 - August 09.
I have had about 6 written letters from CCI Legal, from stating my credit report may be affected to the client may take me to court etc. I have also requested a CCA and was informed that one isn't required for services.
    Thanks again.
