That's it exactly. If a repayment is due I'd suggest you contact HMRC to see what your son needs to do so this can be paid asap. They might just need confirmation that your son was not working between the pension stopping and him starting employment.

By the sound of it, because they've used the P45 from the pension, the tax will be fine. They only problem is the small amount of extra allowances - if this is the case I'd suggest not doing anything further until after the tax year ends. It's highly unlikely they'll ask your son to pay back the £11. However, if you tell them now they will adjust the tax code and the £11 will be collected back automatically.
Quidco savings: £499.49 tracked, £494.35 paid.

OK just worked it out from your figures.

    Tax paid should be £287.45

Cumulative tax paid (from his payslip yesterday) is £280.20. Don't expect there's anything to worry about for £7.25

He was given a tax rebate of around £160 this month instead of paying the normal £325 so he was richer by around £480 this month. He was worried it was a mistake and they would ask for it back!

    However seems like it's correct.

    Thanks again.

    QUOTE FROM JEM

My son gets annoyed when I "advise" him but then always comes to me to get things fixed. At times I feel I should just let him get into a mess but I can't. END OF QUOTE

I couldn't let my son get into a mess either and in fact, didn't know how much of a mess he was in when it all went very badly wrong. Some weeks back he said "the bank have sent me £50" so I told him it was because I had written to the ombudsman but it came up again recently and he said it was because he had told the bank what he thought of them on the 'phone. Why do we bother:confused:

I'm attempting to take a back seat at the moment having been told at the weekend to stop lecturing him on his finances!
