O2 overcharged me and the threat from Moorcroft Debt Recovery.

I owe O2 169 pounds before and received the letter from Moorcroft Debt Recovery Limited asked me to pay 203 pounds.

My situation is a bit different from other people on the forum cuz I didn't spend that much money of calling. I was overcharged. There's no way I spent 169 pounds over a few calls.

I suppose there might be a leak in the O2 system as someone is sharing the same number with me but I need to pay all the money.
One of my friends went back to China for two months during summer holidays and she didn't use the O2 sim card. Then she was asked to pay over 200 pounds for that two months. She requied to see the calling history and someone was actually using her number. I think I'm in the same situation with her. O2 appearantly won't buy it.

I realy don't want to pay for something I didn't spend. And now I don't want to pay extra 30 pounds to the MDRL. So please help me how can I avoid that depressed situation?

Have you asked 02 for a breakdown of the balance? were you in contract at the time? often if you don't pay your phone bill the phone company will charge you for the remainder of the contract period - which they are perfectely entitled to do.

First I would suggest you write to moorcroft asking for a breakdown of the balance and itemised copies of any bills. Then you can see how it is made up and whether you may have any cause to complain about the amount charged.

    HI

I had the same problem with O2 several years ago. I got a mobile through them on contract and paid this every month but destroyed the sim. All was fine at first then they started trying to charge me for calls which obviously could not have been made. Get a full breakdown and ensure you are confident this isn't down to you then go directly to complaints dept. I ended up having to go to ombussman and got is sorted but took some time. Also if it now with a debt agency they must have sent previous bills, did you contact at this point ?

  • Hey,
Thanx a lot for your help.

I have finished the contract as soon as I found that I was overcharged.

I haven't asked for a breakdown for O2 of the balance. I'm afraid I'll get the breakdown which is full of number I didn't call just like my friend. How can I persuade them to believe I didn't make those phone calls?

@ rosiest My English is not very good, I don't understand what 'ombussman' means. How did you contact the complaints dept of O2? How can they identify the callings were not dialed by you?

    Cheers :)

You can't just "finish a contract" because you've been overcharged. If you signed a contract for 24 or 12 months, you have to pay for those months, regardless of whether or not you use the phone.

You need to see a breakdown of the charges. If you haven't seen which numbers the calls are for to confirm you didn't make them, how do you even know that that's what the charges are for?

I signed a sim card contract with O2, 15 pounds per month for 300 mins talk and 300 messages. I didn't sign a phone contract with them.

I will ask a breakdown from them.

If you're on pay as you go, then it's not a contract.

Let us know when you have the breakdown of charges - if you haven't actually seen this yet, then it's just an assumption that the charges are for calls. It might be for something completely different.
