Scotcall

I owe £360.00 for a gym membership. It has been passed onto scotcall and one of their agents called at my door last night. I wasn't in but he left a card with my husband. Now, I want to settle this asap but won't be able to until late next month so need to set up an arrangement untill I can settle. Am I ok to pay a small amount over the phone or are they able to wipe out my bank balance? Or it says I can pay online but would this be the same as over the phone? Thanks

Hi budda
I wouldn't give them your bank details on the phone. Whilst legally they could lonly take the amount you said if they decide to take more it would be hard to prove and hard to get back. Same if you set up a DD or put your bank details into their website.
However if you send a payment from your online banking (via billpay or a make a payment option) this would only send the amount you specify and they couldn't take more.
There is a template letter to send if you want to stop future doorstop calls from the agent. Although obviously this might take a couple of weeks or so for them to process.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
