Help for young people with debt...

Hi all,

I'm new here, so hello, been lurking occasionally but decided to post now! :D I've been looking around the web to find help for young people with debt, there's so little out there!

Almost a year ago my brother's friend got himself in debt regarding a payment for a PC and the debt mounted with interest and he ended up owing 4 figures, which for a 17-year-old is devastating. He was down for quite a while and got depressed about this and he told his close friends after many months and one of his friend's parents stepped in and gave some advice. But I imagine not everyone is so lucky as to know people who know hot to help or people they can even talk to about this - it was embarrassing for the lad and he kept it bottled up for ages.

I was wondering if anyone knows any sites out there that do give support for young people with debt? I found one site for young people, Bold Creative (forum won't let me post a link, but it's in the blog section), who do videos and things to help young people (bit trendy ;)) which I saw last night that put up a blog post about this with a video urging young people to go the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Does anyone else know any sites that help with this or relating things? Thanks for the help! :money:

Martin's teen cash class is a good starting point for teens (and some adults as well)

I think radio 1/switch had something similar - a teen money guide

  • Thanks so much guys, I've favourited the cash class, thanks! :D

coryboy: I don't know the ins and outs of it, but I'll check it, I think it was just payments he owed to Dixon's for a computer, I only heard it form my brother, who doesn't know much about this stuff.

Thanks very much for all this. :D
  • If he lied about his age, he could be liable. However Dixons, have a responsibility to ensure he was 18 at the time any Agreement was signed.
