Good idea to change jobs when looking for a house?

Is it a good idea to change jobs if I am in the process of househunting and therefore getting a new mortgage after that? Thanks in advance.

Some lenders will not like applicants if they are in a probationary period, whilst others are ok with it.

Maybe to have as wide a choice of rates available it may be better to look at the mortgage first, and the job second.

thanks herbie ... as housing mkt is quite stagnant around the winter months, maybe if I get a new job now, by spring, I would be over the 3 month probationary period. Would I still be in a less favourable position than now (mortgage-wise), where I have a 2 year service record with my current employer?

Not really - cant really be specific as I know very little about you.

However, as long as you are over the probationary period, you should open up the whole market to you again - you just need to make sure you find the right lender to suit your needs.
