I've just realised that when you have a code for a set amount off the order, ie the £15 off £45 that came through on Martins last email, M&M don't actually deduct the amount off the total of the order, but take a proportionate amount off each item.
That means that if you order a few items to choose between and return a couple (still leaving the order total over the qualifying amount, ie £45 in this case) then you don't get the full discount, as they only refund the amount charged per item. I had ordered 5 pairs of jeans and a pair of sunglasses, total order value came to £114.76 with the discount taken off, 1 pair of jeans were out of stock, so I immediately lost £2.31 of discount that had been allocated to them, then I returned 2 pairs of jeans, and was left with a total discount of £6.76 instead of £15 as I had expected.
I'm sure this is perfectly legal and all that, but it can still fool you into using an "amount" code, rather than a set percentage, as in my case I would have been better off with even 15% off. I've even looked at returning the entire order and replacing it, only ordering the items I want to keep (using a different email address) and if did I would end up paying about £5.50 less, even with paying the £3.99 delivery!
I probably won't bother, seems a lot of hassle, but maybe it will be of use to somebody else, knowing that if you're thinking of returning anything, you might be better off using a percentage code, rather than a set amount one...
    Hope this made sense!
I don't think I can hang on til Friday...

  • Its not a discount code, but I've bought a few clothing items off MandMdirect through their Ebay site, and saved myself delivery charges, still purchasing the goods found on the direct website. Hope this will be of some use?? :o
