Icing really, but the yanks call it frosting. I have made this and it's lovely. Really light almost mousse like and not as sugary and sweet as traditional topping.

I did put it on another thread but it got a bit lost and I have been meaning to share for a while.
  • Interesting recipe. Wouldn't have thought of trying white sauce icing! All my other recipes for 'american style frosting' involve beating egg whites so i've not bothered (don't want the hassle or the leftover yolks) but I'm thinking of trying this sometime. :D

I've used a similar reciep for 'boiled frosting' before and always got grat feedback - someone once said it was like not cold icecream - q=which is kind of is - creamy and smooth but not too sweet/ sickly

Mrs Crafty: I love you.
I hate icing sugar with a passion as I always end up getting high from the clouds of it in the kitchen. And I can never think of anything else for the kids to stick the bits and pieces to. I have googled and not managed to find anything that didn't include cups and lots of American terms (I'm lazy and can't be bothered translating) and so this is perfect.

I can't thank you enough!!!!!! My children will be chuffed to pieces!

This sounds really good...... but I never use american web sites as I do not know how to use cup measurements. What is 1/2 cup of butter..... do you know how much it weighs and any idea about weight of the other cup measurements as I desperately need to find an easy frosting recipe for my daughters cupcake decorating party:)
  • An American cup is about 250ml I think so if you find a teacup or similar at home that holds that much you can use it as your standard measure in future :)

I like this website for cups to grams... Scroll down and fund the ingredient then look it up underneath.

Thanks OP for this recipe, really looking forward to trying it out... My thighs find buttercream a little heavy ;)
