Bank account advice

Does anyone know of a current / basic bank account that accepts people with bad debt or defaults ?

A visa card at petrol pump is handy.

Thanks

Any basic bank account will accept people with defaults as they are not subject to a credit check. Co-op cashminder and barclays bank account even accept people who are bankrupt.

Have a look at this link page 5 for a list of what card each offers etc and other facilities - http://www.moneymadeclear.org.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf

This isn't necessarily the case anymore.
Co-op cashminder rejected me with some adverse credit and I have never had any accounts or any finance from them or any of their branches and I'm on the electoral roll.

Actually your are the second person who I've seen posting something similar united - although the other time it was santander I think.
Its more concerning as its co-op who should be one of the easiest to get.

The whole point of basic account is that anyone who can prove their identity and address and hasn't had a record of fraud should be able to get one. If this is going to be an increasing issue that they are declining people and leaving vulnerable people unable to get basic bank accounts then this is something that really needs looking at /campaigning against.

As far as I am aware the Basic Account Visa Debit Cards do not always work at the Petrol Pay at the Pump Stations. This is because the card needs to be authorised for every transaction via checking directly with you bank and the Pay at Pump Service does not have this facility.

I have a Natwest Step Account and got that whilst on a DMP with defaults. Also the Barclays Basic Account may be worth a look.

    good luck
