advice needed chased for a debt 12 yrs old

Hi everyone I have used this site for a while for moneysaving ideas. I have recently sorted all my debts out and owe just one loan. However on Friday I received a letter addressed to me as a name I hadn't been for over 6 years (i changed my name due to personal reasons then got married a couple of yrs ago) at a new adress I have just got a mortgage on with my husband. Its from a debt collection agency saying I owe 7700 to Lloyd's from 1999. I called and asked them what it was regarding and they couldn't tell me - he actually said he had no other details, so I asked them to send me details. He went off for ages and came back saying he would send them. I don't recall having anything with Lloyd's and even if I did it would have been paid years ago. Can anyone tell me where I stand?

Apologies if this is in the wrong place. Didn't know Whee else to put it. I am really worried about this.

Even if it was yours, the debt would be statute barred.

However, as you don't even recognise the debt, then you could use the slightly modified version in this link.

Thank-you so much for those letter links. I will certainly use them and hopefully get these people off my back. I had heard of some sort of time limit but wasn't sure it actually existed. Thanks again.
