Missing serps

Hi,

18 years ago i opted out of serps as i was told at the time it was what i should do. I completely forgot i had done it, and several house/job moves later Ive started a pension scheme with my current company. The question of serps came up in a meeting and it jogged my memory.

My problem is, i dont remember the company i opted out with, and have no paperwork at all related to it.

My q is, who would i contact to find out who i took the the pension with?

Thanks in advance.

The HMRC Contracted Out Pensions Helpline can tell you which company the money is going to and how to contact them. Among other things they provide:

    # Contracted out status of an individual
    # Details of payments made to Personal Pension plans i.e. dates and amounts of payments of Age Related Rebates
    # Start and End dates of policies / scheme membership
    # Periods of contracted out liability
    # Dates / confirmation of transfers between schemes

So they should be able to give you a complete history. Be ready with a pen and paper or computer and keyboard so they only have to run through the list once. :)

The most important bit to know if your NI number. Virtually all pensions are stored under NI number. So, as long as you have that right, the rest is bonus.
