CCJ on my credit report and I genuinely do not know anything about it?

Hi,
I have a CCJ against me for just over £8,000 according to my credit report which I have just recently checked for the 1st time. It says it was filed in 2008 yet I genuinely do not have a clue what it is.
It has a case number but I am worried about contacting the court itself incase I suddenly find myself being chased for the money which I don't have.
I obviously want to know what it is but I don't want to suddenly find myself being chased for the money because of something I do now such as contacting the court.
I have lived at my current address for over a decade and do not ever recall receiving anything that could be related to this?
What should I do?

You do need to contact the court to find out details of the judgement from the court, without that info you cannot progress at all. There isn't any other way you can find this info out.
However as far as I know contacting the court won't affect the creditor chasing you. What may start them chasing you is that you have just requested your credit file, thereby confirming your address.
You could find it is not your debt or you might find that you can prove you don't owe the money and can then get the judgement set aside.
Can you not think of any old unpaid debts you might have at all? Have you had anything like a car on finance that you handed back that you could have owed extra on? Any disputes relating to your business or anything along those lines?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
You may not know about any active CCJ but you must know if you have ever run up a debt of several thousand pounds or not at some point???
Either you owe someone money or you don't, if you don't contacting the court would not mean you have to pay someone money you do not owe!0 -
Would I be able to find out from the Registry Trust Ltd?0

No
They will only tell you the amount of any CCJs, the date and the court that issued them. You need to contact the court to get a copy of the judgement.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
This could be a possibility............
Have you ever defaulted on a credit card? when i received mine from Halifax, after i acknowledged the debt on the ccj, the fixed amount was set, which i paid directly to Halifax, i had no other contact with the court, all details of the agreement were were issued by Halifax.
If you didn't received the judgement, it would have just been posted as a non-respondent and the judgement set against you. (which you would have been unaware of) So if you had an arrange set up with a cc company after a default, they could have issued a ccj and you could have been paying it as an arrangement unaware that it was under a ccj.DFW Nerd no. 1191;)Maximum Debt £33k in 2007  all on CC's (I know, lesson learned; never consolidate and not cut up the cards!)Now completely debt free, but it was a double edged sword0
