Starting a Cake Decorating Business?

Hi everyone,

I am interested in starting my own business baking and decorating cakes, I am not planning on doing this for a few years yet as I want to build my knowledge and be sure I have all the essential skills beforehand.

I enjoy baking as a past time and have always wanted to do it professionally. I was wondering if any of you have managed to make the leap from cake decorating as a hobby to doing it professionally? Am really just looking for some pointers on where to start with courses etc.

Many Thanks,

Lauren

  • You have the passion, which is the 1st thing to have when starting a business! From my own experience (with another business), I would also suggest you take a few business classes. It will help you manage and promote your business. Because baking is one thing, and being an entrepreneur is another!

Thank you to you both, I wouldn't mind just learning/trying bits myself, trying to find a website with guides etc, if anyone knows any I would be very grateful. Also any info on classes in the Guildford area would be good.

Hi everyone, those looking for a starting point to teach themselves some cake decorating skills, I have just bought Mich Turner's Cake Masterclass from Amazon. It came today and I got it when I got in from work, 2 hours later... I was still sat on the sofa reading through it lol. It is fantastic, loads of step by step guides with brilliant pictures, can't wait to get practising.

Does anyone know any good value suppliers websites to get some of the tools i need?
