I have looked at the 10 year Woolwich mortgage and it suits my needs.
I spoke with a friend today who is a solicitor and she told me that in her experience (15 years+) Woolwich are a nightmare to deal with and take time to get their mortgage offer out.
Does anyone on here have any experience of this?
I did a search and found a few moqans about the Woowich with reagrds to customer service etc but I suppose there's also the same moans for other mortgage lenders.
Many thanks
Rob

They seem to have been fine for me/my clients recently - so can't complain.

I heard all the horror stories about the length of time to get things set up when I was remortgaging but it wasnt a concern to me as I was applying three months prior to the expiry of the special rate with my existing lender.
In the end though, it went amazingly smoothly. Their surveyor phoned me and called four or five days after my application went in and the offer was with me three days after that. Their solicitors were competent, friendly and quick. I was very impressed with them throughout the whole process.
Post completion has been a pleasure so far. The few enquiries I have had to make have been greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable voice at the other end of the phone.
I'm not saying things will always be this way but, three months in, I'm a very happy customer.0 -
I had an acknowledgement to my application within a few days, Homebuyer survey done within 8 days after applying, survey report two days later and mortgage offer another few days late. All in all, very good service!0

I have had 2 openplan mortgaes with the Woolwich. The first one had no problems at all. With the second one I bought a new house and the developer wanted to complete in 28 days - we managed it and Woolwich were incredibly helpful.
Having said that they then set up the direct debit for the mortgage from the wrong account and it took 6 months, including 10 or so calls to the compaints department to get it sorted out. It is now sorted and things have been fine since.

Just moved to the woolwich, the only complaint I have so far is that one of their call centres seems to be in india.0

While I had no problems when I originally took out my open plan mortgage with the Woolwich about 5 years ago, I recently extended my mortgage with them and that has turned out to be a complete nightmare!
I ended up with two mortgages, two current accounts, and no payments being taken from my current account to pay the new mortgage so I could now end up with a bad credit history - not to mention the interest charges they'll be trying to put on me for the non payments - PLUS- yes there's more - the solicitor they used (who they paid my money to!) was being investigated by the Law Society for fraud and I am further out of pocket because he didn't pay off the old mortgage for ages and I've been landed with interest charges on that too! What more can I say????
I am still trying to get them to sort out the whole bl**dy mess so believe me when I say that at this moment in time I definitely would not recommend them to anyone!Regards

I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole as they have admitted to having "a flaw" in their systems which miscalculates the amount of interest you owe on mortgages under certain situations, thus bumping up the amount of interest you pay.

But I have been through years of hell with them....so I might be biased!
