Making Chocolate cupcakes but no cocoa....

I'm making a batch of cupcakes for dd's birthday and she wants some chocolate ones but I've run out of cocoa powder!! Is it possible to use hot chocolate powder instead?? I've got some cadburys hot chocolate (the sort you add to milk not water) would this be ok?

Thanks in advance

  • Yes. Use it dry. swap some of the flour for the same amount of chocolate powder.
    Put the kettle on. ;)

As this powder contains sugar, you'll need more than if you used cocoa :)

As penpen says you'll need more than you would if you used cocoa. You'll also need to cut the sugar a little or they'll be too sweet (although I'm not so sure that it matters much with cupcakes!). Alternatively can use melted chocolate, or grated chocolate, or make choc chip cupcakes instead.
