Design ideas needed for baby quilt please.

Options
My darling daughter is pregnant and the joy we all feel is immense. I have never properly quilted before but I would love to make one that will grow with the baby. Too soon to know what make the baby will be but if a girl I like this idea
6a00e54fd536558834010536a06c1d970b-400wi but making it as a quilt. By the way the pillow is a free pattern called Flower Garden Pillow to anyone interested. Please note this is NOT my work, oh how I wish. We have a lovely shop just 2 miles away that sells quilting fabric and the owner is so helpful so I plan to shop there and pick her brains.
If anyone has any other ideas for both girl and boy designs I would really appreciate it. Now all you clever ones out there don't get too technical with me :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I love that design. I wonder though if you'd consider making a baby sleeping bag (baby grobag) instead of a quilt with the above design, or as well.

We didn't have one for my first (hadn't been invented) but we were given one as part of a bundle of clothes, and it was great as the baby can't wriggle out of it. Was also brilliant in the travel cot on holiday. They make different sizes 0-6 months, 6-12 months etc.

We did sometimes use a blanket in top of it but it and a quilt would have probably overheated the little one.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
  • Hi Sethsgran. Congraulations on the fabulous news. We have a four year old GD and she's such a cutie. Had a quick peep on youtube for you to see if there were any unusual but easy ideas and came across this no sew fleece. I know it's not quilting in the traditional sense but the effect looks brilliant once it's done. Just very unusual I thought and maybe an idea for a future project. In the top right hand corner there's also a tutorial for a no sew fleece hat and scarf, from the same person that looks cute.
Anyway just something a bit different.

Also if you google images baby quilts you can have a look at all the different designs to inspire you.
Good luck whichever you decide and would love to see a pic after :)

dizzie lizzie I love the ladybug no sew blanket you linked to but this time I fancy making a sewn quilt, I have made tons of no sew ones. I do plan to make this pattern again using flanellette on the inside for cosiness. 4202.jpg?rand=57889515 But I still need a pattern idea to make a quilt, keepsake item Thanks though for searching for me. I might look on flickr or etsy for inspiration. :)

I made a patchwork quilt for my nephew when he was born. Sadly I didn't take any pictures though. I just did pastel squares in solid and gigham check with a double pastel border around the outside. When I did the "quilting" bit I used a teddy bear stencil in each square so had a hand sewn bear in each square. It was very cute and very easy to do as someone who had never even switched on a sewing machine before!

What do you think of this idea.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/15443384@N07/3355423189/ Must stress this is one I like not my work. I know I couldn't do all the fancy quilting but the actual assembly and applique is not a problem. NOt sure which I prefer between this one and the first 1. Oh no I need to stop looking, just look at this one,

Anyone noticed a colour theme here, could this grandma be hoping for another girl in the family, so far we have 4 grandsons and 2 grandaughters. Hey as long as they are well I really don't mind which models my daughters and daughter in laws have ;)

I love the first picture and the last one you've posted. I also like these - simple yet effective: http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/07/his-hers-personalized-baby-quilts.html

Oh me too but I have now ordered one, last one, I figure with all my children wanting big families there is bound to be a little girl come along. If not I do have 2, 2yr old, grandaughters I could make them for as single quilts. Thanks for the link Nykied they are lovely also. My kids know that I have a thing about making my grandchildren blankets/quilts LOL
