Buying to Rent advice sought

Hi there, I would appreciate some advice about buying to rent.
I have the opportunity to buy my local authority property, which is a 4-bedroom (2 double & 2 single) detached bungalow in a university ward that is always desperate for student accommodation. The property also has an attached single garage and another 2 garages attached to each other but detached (although close to) the property (it used to be a housing scheme warden's bungalow) and therefore I wondered what the scope would be for converting these into further accommodation? The garages are all single skin brick built with flat felt lined roofs, and have electricity in them already. Also, if this were possible, would appreciate a ballpark figure for converting same.
Regards in advance.

As you probobly discovered with the property you inherited, the best people o advise you on the conversion possibilities are the local Planning Dept in the first instance.
Then talk to builders.
Remember any rental income will be taxable and will impact on your benefits.0 -
Do you have any experience as a landlord? Planning to join a professional landlord organisation? Know anything about Landlord Tenant law? Providing a safe place for people to live? Or is the plan to just stick as many students as possible into a small house (and garages !!!!!!...you can't make people live in garages) and rake in the dosh?
Amateur landlords who think it's an easy way to print money really hack me off. These are people's lives...people's homes...0 -
Labour should have repealed the Right To Buy legislation. It's shameful that they didn't0

I couldn't just let this go... people like you really hack me off! I came on here seeking advice, as I thought that's what these forums are for, and not be judged by you, somebody who doesn't know me and who has no right to assume anything about me!
I have been a student so no, I wouldn't just sardine other students into a property just to make money! I would do everything legally, without cutting corners, making it as comfortable as I could for people within the budget I had. I have seen quite a few garages that have been converted into accommodation, and they can be done very well and very safely actually!
I've seen some of your other posts and they all seem to take the same sort of tone... I don't know about Drama Llama, maybe Bitter Lemon might be a better user ID?0 -
