OH just bought a Samsung 42" plasma... bloomin fantastic !
Picture quality and sound it fantastic.
Have nothing bag to say.
I believe that LCD`s have a brighter picture, but have a life on them of about 10 years.
Both plasma and LCD are at risk of still imaging, where a picture burns onto the screen. There is an incresed risk of this if you use video consoles on your TV.Debt Free Jan 2010!(Be happy) the state of your life is nothing more than the state of your mind! X:j0 -
Im no expert but have been lead to believe that LCD's are the better of the 2.0

I weighed this up about 6 months ago & ended up with a 50" HD DLP tele for £900 !! Best thing I've ever bought. Pic is superb, especially with a HD input !!0

Without doubt go for the new Sony Bravia 'W' series. What HiFi? product of the year. It's new out and absolutely awesome. I have just bought one from John Lewis. They give a free 5 year guarantee and have the TV at £2000. However, I got them to price match (Against any 'bricks and mortar' store) Empire Direct at £1625!!. An absolute bargain and got the 5 year guarantee. A lot of shops and internet sites charge up to £500 to extend to 5 years!. Go for it - you will not be disappointed.
Note: Forget these cheap plasma/LCD televisions. You really do get what you pay for eg 50" HD DLP tele for £900. It's a false economy. Don't say I didn't warn you. It's not the taking part but the winning that counts.0 -
Why is it ?
I have linked it up to several HD inputs & it is superb. This is not forgetting that 18 months ago, this TV was worth £4k & got 5/5 from Which !
It's not false economy at all ! A few friends of mine with plasma's, LCD's, CRT's & standard RP have commented on how superb the picture is !0 -

To have a life of 10 years you'd need to use it for at least 16 hours a day! The quality makes (Sony, Samsung, Panasonic etc) generally have a 60,000 hour lifespan.
The problem with screen burn is really only applicable to the make up of Plasma TVs.
Having just bought the Sony Bravia W series and planning to keep it 8 to 10 years my wife and I were wondering how out of date it is going to look by then. It'll probably be an embarassment when the kids' friends come round. (They are currently age 2). We have just ditched a Panasonic after 9 years and that looked state-of-the-art when we bought it!It's not the taking part but the winning that counts.0 -
I have the Pioneer 436XDE and it is perfect for watching TV and playing XBox 360 games. For the plasma though you do have to run it in for a number of hours to reduce risk of screen retention. Avoid leaving TV with logo on.
I found that watching LCD for fast moving sports was a bit of a blur. (Might have been the tv in the shop but it was a sony).
A good site to check out is AVForums.com where you read real experiences of people and their machines. Not just TVs. If you have a couple of TVs in mind use the search function on the forum to see what people really think about their machines.
Good luck

I have been told that Plasma screens burn out after 2 years.
I have a LCD TV and play games, watch sport etc and have had no problems at all

We have a 42" LG plasma, the decision over the LCD being that a local repair store over the last year has had 10 LCDs in for repair and only 2 plasmas.......... and the picture is fantastic with ours. With many LCDs you have to be sitting straight on to the TV or you cannot see the picture properly (we have this problem with the one at work that only 3 people can watch at once when there are far more than that on their break)."Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!
