Council Tax Issue

Hi, I changed my bank account last Oct and in all the hassle I missed a council tax payment. My payments were £83 over 12 months. I had £276 left to pay this financial year. They wanted it over two payments of £138. I called and said I could not afford that but asked if I could pay in 3. From my Jan, Feb and Mar salaries. They agreed to this and one I had finished they would set up a new dd from April.
I paid £93 on 3 Feb via Internet banking using their sort code and account as printed on the back of my bill. I set up payments to go out on 23 Feb and 23 Mar. In error I used my address instead of ct account no on the pay ref.
I've got a letter today saying I have not paid the £138 and they want it in 7 days. Have they lost the payment with not having the ref no, just my address. I've checked my bank and their account details are correct and the payment went out.

Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time :mad:

They probably just haven't been able to apply the payments you made to your bill. Hopefully if you call them up and explain they should then be able to track down your payments and correctly allocate them.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

Unallocated payments will go in to a suspense acct until they can be linked to the correct account - contact them and give them the details and you should be fine. The payment should be relatively easy to find.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
