Dulwich Village is "next" to Peckham in the same way that Maida Vale is next to Harlesden

London being a city full of immigrants doesn't bother me in the slightest. But I'm not a BNP supporter (changed your signature I see).

I get a seat on the train every day. Without fighting!

Not been on the Waterloo and City line for a long time but when I did back in the 70s everybody queued nicely at the given points on the platform and then squeezed in you were luck if you got on let alone had a seat.

Can’t quite understand all the arguing I commuted to London from Surrey all my working life. London has plenty of advantages but I wouldn’t want to live there in fact I haven’t been there for a long time but luckily we are all different so it suites some people and not others.

Norwich is a very nice city compared to a lot. It has its bad spots, but thankfully they seem to be in certain areas. A high CCTV presence, and relatively low crime rate anyway compared to some in your list. :)

Well, its surely quite chocolate box lovely but it's next to Peckham 'village'.

    Or should that be 'hood'...

I live in Peckham. Dulwich Village is actually nowhere near.

I think this thread illustrates perfectly that small minded people don't live in cosmopolitan cities.

I love London -was born there and spent my twenties working there.

I now live outside -far enough out for house prices to be sensible (ish) but close enough that if I want to go to a show or a concert I can get back if I don't want to stay over.

Some people embrace diversity and want culture, history and the vibrancy a big city offers -and the trade off of the less desirable elements of a city are acceptable -for others they want the pub where they know everyone-local high streets full of chain stores, less choice but less cost in everything.

Honestly though the best thing about London is the variety of interesting people you meet -and conversation is usually above the hoodie wearing mumble of "It's different innit -don't like different or people I don't know" that is so apparent not just on this thread but on most out of the big city high streets.

Love it or hate it London (and Manchester) offer things you simply don't find in towns -if you don't like it-don't come visit we honestly won't miss you.

I think that could be quite an entertaining thread. I'll start with:

    Northampton
    Bedfordshire
    Aberdeen

I'll see you Dartford and raise you Rotherham.

These places have been turned into poundshops, with the life sucked out of them by places like Blue Water and Meadowhall.

Not 'too' bothered about immigrants but crowded trains isn't my idea of fun. Specially when ppl start pushing, someones arm pit in your face. :rotfl:

yes homeward carriage was full of the red and white army of arsenal supporters yesterday too. suppose it's the price to pay for being at the hub of things. (i hate football).

ninky, old girl. You're back. Where have you been hiding.

I've missed your oh-so-cute liberalisms and pithy West London dinner party aphorisms.

Not sure why Bedfordshire is so bad. It has some odd black spots but overall good place. London is still commutable from Beds and house prices are affordable in spite of being in South East. :)
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.
