Video camera's near traffic lights....

Anyone know what these are for?

One camera in each direction about 200 yrds from and facing the lights, then near the junction itself a large pole with 4 x wireless antenna.

They're small and really high up, around the height of a telegraph pole and just plain grey/white with no infrared flood light.

My friends and I can't work out what they are, the original theory was for red light jumping, but they have no flash and look nothing like that type of camera......

Possible ANPR, but despite having two major A roads crossing there, I can think of much busier places to check numberplates.

It's a mystery! :s

    CCTV for monitoring traffic flow.

  • It sounds like the boxes that let through emergency vehicles to me, they change the lights when an emergency vehicle approaches and also they monitor traffic as far as i have heard.
  • Is this the ones you mean

^^ No, these are actual CCTV type camera's, mounted high up on poles, some 200 yards down the road from the lights and at the lights there's another pole with 4 wireless antenna's on top.

These sound like Traffic Master detectors which monitor traffic flow for that company's real time traffic information service. They have been rolled out throughout the country and are often mistaken for speed cameras. www.trafficmaster.co.uk
