why have my cupcakes stuck to the paper cases?

as the title says, my cupcakes have stuck to the paper cases, could somebody give me some hints or tips on why. i am an enthusiastic baker but not very good!:p the only thing i can think of is i didnt weigh the butter correctly.
also they were 'baked' in my new mini cupcake maker (electric gadget), first time i've used it but it has also happened before on 'normal' sized cakes done in the oven (not every time, about every 5th time!).

thank you Frugal, its my favourite film. the cat in my avatar is called Ralph, i had a male cat called Felicia but unfortunately he's no longer with us, used to confuse the neighbours when i shouted 'Felicia, come here son'! not to mention the vets who always felt the need to tell me that Felicia was in fact a boy, as if i didnt know, he was a stone of lovely gingerness, but very pretty!'there goes an old transexual, last seen heading south,

I don't know why your cakes stuck, but I swear by reusable silicon cupcake/muffin cases - they are fab!0

It must be me, I'm missing something surely. Tell me to naff off if I'm talking gibberish, I probably am

But don't they always stick, you have to peel the paper off don't you, when you eat them.
Can't help with the cup cake maker, but I'm assuming they end up the same as when they are baked in the oven.0 -
I use granulated sugar all the time. Doesn't really make a difference, IMO.an update on my cupcakes, now they've cooled they are hard & crispy on the top, just realised i used granulated sugar as i dont have any caster so not sure if thats the problem but have used it before with good results x
And I'd have to agree... it never occurred to me that they might not always stick to the papers :rotfl: Mine do, but once they've cooled properly, they come away quite easily.0 -
Do the silicon cases mean you you don't have to bother with paper cases?I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.0

I NEED them to stick to the cases otherwise when i'm decorating them they look untidy (plus they go stale faster). its the ones that come away from the cases that end up getting dumped (well, frozen for home use rather than given away to whoever requested them). When doing stuff like buttercream flowers, the edge of the papercase is vital in providing a frame for the flower. And every cupcake decorating class I've been to spends time focussing on how to make sure the case sticks to the cake! And I'd have to agree... it never occurred to me that they might not always stick to the papers :rotfl: Mine do, but once they've cooled properly, they come away quite easily.0 -
I had Asda cake cases that were terrible for sticking, left half the cake behind. Changed to a different kind and it was fine. (I use granulated too
) Mummy to an amazing little girl

Yes is the short answer. I have some silicon muffin tins and can make muffins without any liners and just pop out when cool. I sometimes use papers with the tins if the muffins are going to "travel" or be for others to eat so to speak like to school for a fair stall, to friends/playgroup/work etc. But fine without at home. I also have some silicon liners that are basically reusable versions of the paper cases. I don't usually pop the cakes out unless taking them elsewhere and the kids know after you pop it out to eat the cases go in the sink to be washed. Saves alot on paper cases so very MSE and also I suppose is a greener option as they are reused over and over. Both my muffin trays and silicon cases are used at least twice a month (if not once a week) and after 2 years still look like new.
