Fill out the form and send it back. Then you will know what they want. Simples.

If they were after you for money, they wouldn't be so coy about it.

If the letter came through the DWP, Sun Life probably knows your NI number - which suggests that it may well relate to your contracting out of SERPs.

I agree with Meeper - if they wanted money out of you they'd have said so already!

Pensions are the most common thing that they do this on.

I got one of these 2 years ago, it would appear that the DWP will only help them trace you if they owe you money.

In my case it was £46 from a Sun Life type pension many years ago - so don't start thinking about a cruise yet - it took about 6 months to get into my bank, maybe they've taken somebody else on since then.
  • You probably owe back dated premiums on a policy.

Or they might have as policy that you benefit from?

At least it isn't that email form an east African bank and has come through the DWP.

  • I also had a letter from DWP Bulk Letter Forwarding Service in Nov 2011. I am fairly certain I completed and returned the form, but not heard back from Sun Life.

I emailed Sun Life today to enquire about this. So will see what transpires. I recall I did pay into a financial product in 1990s, but not sure what the product was. I have lost paperwork due to various house moves and my document keeping was lousy in my early twenties.

I also emailed NHS Pensions regarding paying into Superannuation Scheme, I would say about the same period. I wanted to find out the details. Paperwork lost due to the same reasons.

Will see what comes out of these communications.

I suspect a plan with SLOC will be a personal pension used to contract out of SERPs for a period, perhaps during the 90s?

It would certainly explain the DWP involvement, as the plan accepted NI rebates from the DWP/HMRC.
