Roof of mouth sore after tooth extraction

I had a tooth out on Monday as it was split. It took 20 minutes to get it out as it was breaking. There was a lump on the roof of my mouth above it that the dentist said was a sinus. Now, the extraction site seems to have healed ok but where the lump was is still oozing something that tastes nasty and frankly I've felt quite ill over the last 2 days. Not because of the taste, but just so tired and generally yuk. Where the lump was feels like a blister now and that is sore.

Could feeling so lifeless and this lump be related? The tooth I had out was 3rd from the back at the top of my mouth if that helps.

Make an appointment with your dentist, it's impossible to tell without seeing you but you may have an infected socket.

I have an appointment on Tuesday. The socket itself feels fine (I've just had a feel with my tongue).

Sounds like an abcess if there's gross tasting stuff come out....and with the other symptoms....Just think yourself lucky you haven;t swollen up like I did....my whole face ballooned....but I'd get to the dentist ASAP.

also, paracetemol and ibuprofen (if you can take both/either) are good if you take one, then the other two hours apart, helps with the pain and the swelling.

  • I had a throbbing pain in my mouth about a week ago - got anitibiotics from dentist and the pain has gone but I too have a fleshy type lump on my gum - doesnt taste funny though.

I think you should ring your dentist and see what he says. You might need some antibiotics too.

Guys be careful about offering a diagnosis over a forum. There is no way this can be diagnosed in this setting. Also in my experience few people get an abscess after an extraction. Moat commonly they get alveolar osteitis which gives a bad taste amongst other things. If there is a worry then get back to the dentist but try not to worry

Thanks all. I've had an abcess before and it's nothing like that. Luckily the pain is nowhere near as bad. Maybe I'm just rundown from eating mushy stuff for the last 2 weeks! The dentist originally said that the tooth had lost a bit of filling and my Tuesday appointment was meant to be to get it filled. So, I suppose living on weetabix, eggs and mash for 2 weeks is going to take it's toll.

I was advised to keep my Tues appointment so I'll do that. I've convinced myself that if it was anything serious it would really hurt.
