Work at Home Data Entry sam? need to find company info!

Options
Hi

Does anyone have information on a company called JP Partnership? I applied for a job and they have requested £10 for training materials. I asked them if they could supply with some company details and all they stated was that they are based in Staffordshire. Also a quick google search didnt bring anything except the job adverts. Im not expecting it to be a legitimate opportunity but hopefully someone here will advise me otherwise.

cheers

Anyone that asks for money for training/ information/ registration should have immediate alarm bells ringing.
The only thing we know for sure, is that we know nothing

I agree with Sammyantha anyone who asks for money from you is a Scam.

Out of nosiness though I had a scout round and it made me laugh when I read the 'application form' when it came to the question "Do you have good English grammer and punctuation?"

I think someone is needed to check their spelling! :rotfl:
If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours :)

this is where i'd apply the needle being scratched off the vinyl sound :)

it's always good to ask if you're not sure though, but as has been said, any opportunity that asks for money up front for "materials" is a scam.

This thread helped me confirm it wasn't a good idea to send these guys money, so I thought I'd contribute my email exchange with them as well, for the information of others. :)
Me:

Dear Sir/Madame,

If you have any openings for a home typist/data clerk I'd love to be
considered; I'm sure I can return excellent results and am available for
full time or part time work schedules.

(talking about my work experience)

I have included my CV; if you have any questions, I can be reached
at any time on (number) or at (email). I would be
very interested to discuss this role further and look forward to hearing
from you.

Best regards,

Dear (me),

Please find details below:

Requirements
Applicants should be at least 18 years old
Computer with reliable internet connection with valid email account
Basic Internet knowledge
Excellent spelling and grammar
Ability to follow instructions accurately

In addition to the above criteria you need to be reliable and self motivated as you the majority of your workload will be completing forms in specific company databases, some may find this to be monotonous so if this does not appeal to you please do not apply as we are only interested in serious applicants please.

You will be processing orders from your computer via the internet and how much you earn is up to you as you will be paid £10 for each order you place. (e.g. if you complete 30 orders a day, you will make £300 a day).

We require a onetime fee for the training material of £10 which covers our training costs, processing fees and also to establish which applicants are serious about the prospect about becoming a Data Entry Clerk/Home Typist.

We must accept this fee to cover training costs, processing fees as well as ensuring that only serious applicants apply. This is a non-refundable fee so please do not hesitate to email me with any queries prior to purchasing your training material. This fee will not be waived for anyone and cannot be deducted from your first pay because if you do not process any applications our company lose time and money on training costs.

When you have been accepted as a Data Entry Clerk/Home Typist, you are considered an Independent Contractor therefore you will be responsible for your own taxes. The online training that is provided will give you further information on this.

You will receive all payments through PayPal (please read further information on the security policies - (link to Paypal's website)), once an application is completed you are able to withdraw the funds at your convenience.

If you feel you are self motivated and meet the above criteria for this position then please contact either Simon or myself on the below e-mail address for further instructions.

Yours Sincerely,

Natalie

Me:

Dear Natalie/Simon,

Thanks for the information - I'm definitely interested in this! I am curious to know roughly how much work each order represents - how many do your typists tend to complete per day? Do you have a website I could look at? In any case, I'm keen to start, and can supply the training fee - I look forward to hearing from you. If you need to reach me by phone, my number is (number).

Best regards,

You will be working as an independant contractor so the amount of work you receive will depend purely on how much time and effort you are happy to put in.

We are in the process of setting up a website, so this will be available very soon!

To receive your training materials please go to (paypal URL) and click on ‘send money’ and make payment to simonandjp@aol.co.uk.

Once we have received the £10 training/processing fee we will send your training materials via email. As soon as you have read the materials fully you can begin straight away.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Regards

Natalie
Hi Natalie,

> You will be working as an independant contractor so the amount of work you receive will depend purely on how much time and effort you are happy to put in.

> We are in the process of setting up a website, so this will be available very soon!

I'm keen to proceed, but is there any chance of some more concrete information than this? I'm sure you understand the need for some kind of assurance before paying an up-front fee. It sounds like you do a lot of business, to support the pay-rate you describe - if not a website, you must have some kind of web or print presence to attract customers? If you send something I can have a look at, I'll be happy to send the fee over to your paypal account.

Best regards,

(my name)

... and that was the last I heard of them. This exchange occured over the last few days till today, 7th March 2011.

Not having so much as a domain name is such a massive alarm bell - They aren't a guarentee of anything, but if they can't even be bothered to sort that out, then they are hardly going to have any clients, are they?
Goal = £9,000 in 2011, starting in March
Current total - £779 banked by 09/04/11
Also growing, scrimping and crafting to not need as much in the first place!
• Thanks for this question and discussion, I've been considering the exact same 'opportunity' but for a so called company called sdinternettraining. The email you recieved from them was the same as mine and a search on the net only showed the adverts they posted (around the Leeds area).
Are there any legit scam review/busting websites that we can post these names on?
• I too nearly fell for this and would sincerely like to post somewhere to warn others about it.

Even searching for the email address I was given (data-entry1@live.co.uk) didn't help me to suss out this is a scam. I luckily thought to check on here before I proceeded.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience everyone, it infuriates me to think how many vulnerable people have probably fallen for this in the hope of improving their situation

• This is a definite scam. The email address is a Microsoft Live address, like the Hotmail, Gmail and other free email addresses. I bet when you send off the £10, they send you the training materials which are nothing more than 'stick an ad in your local paper or shop' and repeat their scam. It's like the many scams I highlight on my website (it-training-advice.com). I strongly suggest anyone who wants to do anything IT related, needs to get their advice from someone who already works in IT successfully, otherwise they'll just get ripped off.
• It is very easy to work from home. Anybody such as college students, housewives, free persons willing to work online can achieve to great heights through working online. It is a less stressful job with more flexible schedule.
